November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month
… and November 19th is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day. But awareness is just the first step. Pancreatic cancer awareness also means that behind every loved one is a caregiver who needs support. When my friend asked me to accompany her to the end of her life, I was confronted with her questions… and mine.
- How could I be the friend she needed?
- How could I be both supportive and honest?
Supporting a Loved One After a Pancreatic Cancer Diagnosis
Biography of a friendship is a promise kept: I wrote a candid story about our friendship so my experience could help two friends like us. It would support the loving caregivers who try to find the soothing words the loved one expects. It would help raise awareness of the plight of finding a cure for pancreatic cancer.
Along my journey, I found answers to my questions: Speak the truth and be in “her conversation.”
Taking action on Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day
To remember those we lost.
To celebrate those who are fighting.
To rejoice in those who survived pancreatic cancer.
To support those loving caregivers often at a loss for words…
